THE CAST
HARVEY ATKIN (Ezra) is an actor who is proud to claim that he has worked steadily in
Canada throughout a career spanning five decades. His film credits include the cult
classic, Meatballs, as well as more than 75 other movies. He was a regular on the long-running television series, Cagney and Lacey, and now plays a recurring role as Judge
Allan Ridenour on the Law and Order series. He has voiced more than 4,000 radio and
television commercials, and is the recipient of three Clio awards, the highest honour
awarded by the advertising community. Harvey has been familiar to Canadian audiences
as the voice of Leon’s Furniture of Canada for more than 20 years, an industry record.
Stage credits include the lead in A Shayna Maidel, directed by the late Al Waxman. He and
his wife Celia live in Toronto, and have a daughter, son, and five grandchildren.
HOWARD JEROME (Jacob) has appeared in David Mamet’s Glengarry Glen Ross and
many other plays, including Cabaret, The Fantastiks, The Gathering, Two and This Night.
His extensive film work includes The Outside Chance of Maximilian Glick, Sam and Me,
Naked Lunch, The Return of Billy Jack, The Good Mother and, most recently, Lucky Number Slevin. In a career that spans 40 years, Mr. Jerome has been a wrestler, a pro football
player, a folk singer and a children’s entertainer. He is also the author of Zero, a musical
based on the life of Zero Mostel, and stars as the Rappin Rabbi in his own show, Kabbalah Kabbaret.
MENACHEM SIFEN (Joseph) has been acting since he was five years old. He has
appeared in numerous productions in children’s and adult community theatre in Naples,
Florida, including A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Oliver!, Annie Get Your Gun, Annie, All
My Sons and others. He was most recently seen in Toronto as young Charlie in Conversations With My Father (Teatron Theatre).
THE CREATIVE TEAM
Writer MICHAEL POSNER (Playwright), a Globe and Mail arts reporter, has won an Etrog
Award (predecessor of the Genie) for best-supporting actor (And No Birds Sing), several
awards for magazine writing, and is the author of four books, including the award-winning
The Last Honest Man, an oral biography of Mordecai Richler.
KAYLA GORDON (Director) is executive director of the Association for Jewish Theatre
and former artistic director of the Winnipeg Jewish Theatre. She has directed, acted and
taught in all aspects of theatre for over 30 years. Selected directing credits include The
Cemetery Club, Beau Jest, Kindertransport, The Gathering, Sunday Father, Visiting Mr.
Green and The Chosen. Three years ago, she developed a very unique presentation
called 10x10, which brought together 10 female playwrights from across Canada.
JAMIE PLUMMER (Stage Manager) is a student at the University of Winnipeg finishing
her honours degree in Theatrical Design and Production. She has enjoyed working on
several Winnipeg Fringe shows in the past and is extremely excited to working on a show
at the Toronto Fringe Festival. She would like to thank Kayla, her friends and family for
their support and encouragement.
